Nostalgia

June 25, 2009 · 9 Comments

While going through some old videos on You tube, I found these fascinating videos of old Indian TV commercials. Anybody who has grown up in India during mid-80’s through early-90’s will remember these commercials. These videos are listed in no particular order of my liking them.

1. Gold Spot: Till date, no soft drink has tasted better to me than what Gold Spot had tasted long back. And, this commercial looked so hip then.

2. Surf with Lalitajee: This ’samajdar’ Lalita jee was so cool that you tried to find her in each aunty of your neighbourhood.

3. Liril Soap: Millions of kids across the towns and cities of India wanted to become men after watching this ’sexy’ Liril ad. You also hoped that your father goes for a loo whenever this commercial was about to come; sadly, that never happened.

4.  Lijjat Pappad: How can one ever forget that ‘hai hai hain..hai hai hain’ in the end

5. Vicks ki Goli: Fathers never looked so loving and cool with their daughters as Jayant Kriplani looked in this ad, a commercial which was seen zillion times by the millions.

6. Nataraj Pencil: And you thought that cool animation stuff happened only recently?

7. Fevicol: Do you know that Bollywood’s front line director Raj kumar hirani first appeared in this old fevicol ad?

8. Digjam : When Shekhar Kapur walked along with many other suited men in this ‘hi-fi’ ad, men with beards became the in thing.

9.  Bajaj Scooter: National integration was still cool then; I think this ad made it’s point much better than any other commercial at that time.

10.  Dhara oil: Oh boy, this kid and this ad were both so cute!

Please share any other important TV commercial of that era which I might have missed here.

Dev, Nostalgia indeed for people like me who still swear by Doordarshan days.

    Shekhar Kapur in Digjam…yum.

    I didn’t know about Raju Hirani. :D

Lalita ji and Shekhar Kapur later in ‘Udaan’.

That little girl in khich-khich’ Vicks is Ila Arun’s daughter Ishita Arun.

the jalebi kid was cute :)
but my ABSOLUTE fav has to be Hamara Bajaja :) specially the way they have constantly innovated and kept up with the times..

The liril add looks funny now. :)
But, yes, they represent a lost era which makes me sad. I used to crave for 50 channels when I had 1. Now I have 100 channels and I want that 1 channel back. :(

Ah, nostalgia is always my weak point. Great collection.

The only one I miss from this list is “Yeh Bullet meri jaan, manzilon ka nishaan” – wonderful ad!
