They say that, in life, everything happens for a reason and that you meet, form relationships, with only those people with whom nature wants you to connect with; the reason that you never meet the remaining ones or never come to know them much is because it’s not meant to be. But, I wonder if this is really true. I see some souls who exist in the same world around me, but our paths never get crossed and will never be. Seeing them from a distance, however, I find them very interesting. I wonder why didnt I meet and know them instead of the ones I knew and know now. I wonder why didnt I fall in love with them rather than the ones I fell in love with in reality. I wonder why didnt….
Do we really make the best possible choices in terms of choosing people in our lives? or even before that, do we really have any control on our ‘choices’ ?

Coen Brothers’ The Hudsucker Proxy teases you. The film teases because you cannot decide when Coens are serious and when they are spoofing. If you start taking the film or it’s characters seriously, you might realize that you, just like the main character Norville in the film, are being taken for a big ride by the Coens; and if you relax and treat it as a spoof, soon you start getting this uncomfortable feeling that you are missing many layers beneath the ‘dont take me seriously’ narrative. Actually, Coens, as is their wont, are doing both. It’s your prerogative what you prefer to see in the movie.

Since some years now, Bollywood, along with it’s usual masala fare, has been also churning out some decent low budget films; films which dont have big stars but which are well scripted, realistic and reasonably entertaining too. I guess Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! comes under that category.

Anybody who has followed my blog since early days knows that I have never given any awards for blogging to anybody. And, whenever I have gotten few from some of you generous people out there, I accepted them with thanks, but never felt a need to put them on my blog. Now, some of you might ask, why this arrogance or indifference towards them?
It’s not arrogance. Yes, it’s true that I haven’t been a fan of giving awards on blogosphere. I see blogging as a tool to express yourself, to network with people who have similar interests/goals and finally to connect with people whose views may not be always similar to yours, but who can still enrich your blogging experience with their interesting posts and viewpoints. But, I don’t see blogging as something where you have to prove a point to others regarding your interesting/different views on things or to demonstrate that how good you can express yourself in terms of your writing etc. So when we bring this award business in this, we, directly or indirectly, promote that urge among bloggers to prove a point and be appreciated on blogosphere. I feel such exercise might defeat the whole purpose of blogging and hence I have always shunned away from them till now. I think that the very fact that an A visits a B’s blog regularly and comments etc speak volumes of A’s appreciation of B and therefore A does not need to give an extra award to B to prove his/her appreciation. But, these are all strictly my views in the context of how I see blogging. By saying all this, Iam in no way undermining any award receiver or an award giver.

Revolutionary Road is a very important film. It’s about dreams awakened by reality. Director Sam Mendes, of American Beauty fame, jolts you out from your daydreams, painfully reminding that how, for most people, dreams remain just dreams! Or is it really? I mean it could also be that those dreams are not really solid dreams but mere fantasies to deny the everyday humdrum existence of life. Let’s see…
