Are we all merely products of our times?

June 25, 2008 · 5 Comments

The other day , after watching The Counterfeiters along with my friend Chris- who is from Texas and who recently joined the management faculty after finishing his PhD- I could not help wonder about Holocaust once again. Since the backdrop of the story was holocaust, the movie brought fore those terrible times once again.

I asked Chris that how could people do something so cruel to fellow beings? Were those tormentors made of flesh & blood like us or were they made of something else?

Main paanchvi pass se jyada tez nahi hoon!

June 9, 2008 · 17 Comments

I have always liked the off screen persona of SRK better than SRK, the actor. In his various off screen avatars ( personal interviews, reality shows, media promotions etc), he always comes across as somebody who is extremely intelligent, perceptive, positive, humble ( though many people dont get this part of him and instead find him arrogant), witty and finally somebody who knows himself very well. I immensely enjoyed watching KBC when SRK was hosting it ( To be fair to AB, I had enjoyed KBC with AB as well). So, to enjoy SRK’s wit and intelligence once again, I watched some episodes of his latest Kya Aap Paanchvi……

The positives of this show:

Of fuel prices and Capitalism

June 8, 2008 · Leave a Comment

While I was trying to get air tickets to Philadelphia and , in the process, fretting over overly expensive tickets for even a small journey such as that ( due to rising fuel prices), I read this post at Shekhar Kapoor’s blog. More than the post, it was one of the comments and then subsequent response to that comment by Shekhar himself which made me wonder about so many different interpretations of Capitalism. My limited knowledge and reading on this subject prevented me to take sides, but I also realized that how much more I have to learn and understand before I can make an informed opinion on this issue. Iam reproducing the original post by Shekhar and subsequent comments by Himanshu ( a frequent contributor on Shekhar’s blog) and Shekhar.

Oh my Mother!!

June 3, 2008 · 15 Comments

My parents arrived last week here and things are going much much better than what I expected!! To start with, they were ” reasonably” impressed with cleanliness in my house….Usually, the two most notorious candidates in the past, the washroom and the kitchen, came out with flying colors this time…..Kudos dude!

Then, unlike most of the mothers who, seeing their kids after a while, in their trademark Bollywood style say, ” kitna kamzor ho gaya hai mera beta” , my mother very unflatteringly said, ” You have gained weight “…. period! Common, Iam still very cool looking folks….dont worry…it’s just my mother.. ghar ki murgi daal barabar u know

Finally, they havent yet talked about some crazy topics which Iam fearing the most..probably they are keeping the worst till the end..who knows..

Iam also eating amazing food nowadays..It’s heaven..

I just wish that my mother, who is here for the third time, stops converting dollars into rupees every time we go for shopping..one of her dialogues, ” 50 dollars for ordinary cooking pot? 2000 rupees!!!..itna mehanga..isse to India acha hai !!! ” lol…
