Girl saying hain hain hain? What does that mean? :-\
lallopallo // May 1, 2008 at 4:21 pm |
It’s not possible to explain that in words..I have to mimic it in voice for you to understand it.
Ruhi // May 1, 2008 at 4:38 pm |
You mean “hain hain hain” laughing type sound?
lallopallo // May 1, 2008 at 4:50 pm |
No, mocking type sound.. u got it now?
Ruhi // May 1, 2008 at 4:51 pm |

Hey, I answered all 28 questions to your tag! Interesting how simple questions like these can take so much time to answer… and they reveal so much about the real person…
Amit // May 2, 2008 at 9:08 am |
Good one. Even I was going to ask about that “hain hain hain” thing, but Ruhi already asked. It was funny.
And Dalhousie?? My nani lives there. I have some really sweet memories of that place….
lallopallo // May 2, 2008 at 2:51 pm |
Welcome back Veenu!
Ya, Anamika, these questions can reveal quite a bit..thanks for doing the meme..
Amit, it’s been too long since I have been to Dalhousie..do you remember the area in dalhousie where your naani lives?
Purnima // May 2, 2008 at 5:18 pm |
hain hain hain
no mountains, no children
finished sir!
My brother lives in Shimla, you like the place?
Anamika // May 2, 2008 at 6:42 pm |
Hey … dunno how but I missed Hyderabad in my list! So you’ve lived in Hyderabad as well!
Howz the book reading. Aldous Huxley’s book had shaken me…
And how can you die ignorant?
No one in this world can know everything, and no one can say they know nothing at all!
If you know yourself, you know all that is worth knowing
I think there are way too many “knows” in that sentence
lallopallo // May 2, 2008 at 8:56 pm |
lol Purnima.. Ya, I love Shimla…I lived there for almost 2 years..The mall road there is cool & the weather the best one can have in the whole world..it’s also very historic place since it used to be summer capital of British India..
Where does your brother live in simla? Lower simla, near mall road or kusumpti..:) Did you ever visit him there? My parents bought a flat there sometime back for us kids to go and live there when we come to India..but we havent used it at all till now.. may be soon..
Anamika, ya I lived in Hyderabad while I was working for a company in Noida..but it was for a very short while..not more than 4-5 months in total..
Well, I started reading brave new world couple of days back..havent read more that first 15 pages yet, but I intend to finish it by next weekend hopefully..
Nita also told me that it was pretty dark..I dont know..just couple of hours back I was talking with another friend of mine and he said it’s not that dark and is a classic..let’s see..
Yes, knowing oneself is most important, I agree….. though it’s not that easy ..

There is a road just below the Lamba market and which goes till Ajit Singh’s Samadhi. Somewhere in the middle of that road, there is a cut which goes downhill. Her house is there somewhere. Oh!!! I have not been to Dalhousie since a long time. I am missing it a lot.
lallopallo // May 3, 2008 at 5:07 am |
I remember Ajit Singh’s samadhi but I dont gather Lamba market..I think the main centers in the town were subhash chowk and gandhi chowk which were seperated by garam sadak and thandi sadak..
But probably you know more ..I was there last in 1992-93..things may have changed now..when were you there last time?
Ya, it was a great place..probably the only hill station which was hardly touched by too much commercialization..even most of the trees and environment were intact unlike simla, manali etc
It was the heavy snowfall and sub zero temperatures ( without the comfort of central heating) of Dalhousie which I guess prepared me to live without any problem in one of the coldest cities of the world fifteen years later.
Amit // May 3, 2008 at 7:02 am |
Lamba market was quite famous there. Its all made on wooden rafts without much of a support beneath. You can actually see the rocks beneath from the cracks in the rafts. Its a little scary. I don’t remember which Chowk was that. Even I have not been there after the early 90s. But somehow I just love that place. So many memories of my childhood are from Dalhousie, Chamba and Dharamsala.
lallopallo // May 3, 2008 at 7:41 am |
What? you were in Dharamshala too?? That’s interesting man..I was there for most part of my first 15 years..it was sort of base town for us as my father’s family lived there-still lives there actually..
When were you there and where exactly?
I have been to Chamba too ..minjar mela and manimahesh expedition
Amit // May 4, 2008 at 6:24 am |
I went to Dharamsala for a cousin’s wedding. Was there for 15-20 days. I liked the way it started raining anytime.
And my cousin still lives there, but I am not sure where exactly. I loved the monestry there.
I have been to Chamba also for a cousin’s wedding. I was there for almost a month. The landscape is just amazing. We also went to Bharmaur which is famous for its temples. There was a helipad there and the scenary from there is just great. Have you been there??
It must have been really fascinating to live in such places. I miss all that so much at times…
lallopallo // May 4, 2008 at 5:40 pm |
Yes, Dharamshala used to have highest rainfall in the world after Cheerapunji..it may still hold the same record, but Iam not sure..
Yes, I have been to Bharmaur couple of times..it’s a remote tribal area and , yes, landscape is other worldly..Actually, you need to go to Bharmaur for a trip to Manimahesh
The Manimahesh trip was one of those experiences which I have not forgotten a bit.
Next time you go to that part of the world, try to visit Manimahesh

How is the book “history of Sikhs”? Though someone tells me Khushwant Singh’s history works are well-researched.
lallopallo // May 9, 2008 at 2:40 pm |
History of Sikhs is supposedly Khushwant Singh’s best work till date, though not necessarily the most popular/famous one. Even his staunchest critics concede that this book is a scholarly read for students of history & cultures. Yes, he researched a lot for this book and consulted various sources. It is based on scholarly archival research of original documents in Persian, Gurmukhi and English.
I have almost finished the first volume and will start the second volume soon. What I absolutely loved about this book till now, apart from the colorful and complex history of those times, is his unbiased approach in projecting Sikh history and Sikh men of those times. I think he being a Sikh himself, even if a non-practicing one & a self proclaimed atheist, that objective approach on his behalf is an achievement.
I will highly recommend this book to you if you like reading about History. This book will also give you a glimpse on other aspects of Indian History during those times.
